Our Vision

OUR VISION is clear: To become a leading NGO in the D.R. Congo by empowering the youth and those in need through quality training and providing the necessary tools for success in the country.

Vision

We will work with a diverse group of youth, creating and empowering through the power of knowledge and ideas. Our opportunities try to resolve some SDG issues such as zero hunger, climate change, and unemployment reduction.

We assist various communities through professional learning activities, resources, and in-classroom support to integrate farming and climate change into their daily habits.

Participants of all ages are provided with hands-on experiences to explore issues related to energy, waste, water, and overall sustainability.

To teach somebody to fish is not enough.
You need to give him/her the tools (resources, equipments) as well so He/Her can to use fish!

The Farm

The farm is situated approximately 45 kilometres from Lubumbashi, the second-largest city in the Democratic Republic of Congo, in the direction of Kasumbalessa (near the border with the Republic of Zambia), close to the village of Nshinga.

Our farm spans 20 hectares and features a small river alongside, requiring a bridge for convenient access. The landscape is natural, adorned with both wild and fruit trees.

The farm was established in 2001. At this stage, we currently raise pigs and cultivate small crops such as corn, cassava, hibiscus, and vetiver. Our plan is highly ambitious, aiming not only to operate a farm but also to establish a centre for empowering individuals through agricultural training, enabling them to become self-sufficient.

Currently, a family resides and works at the farm in an artisanal house that we constructed. We have plans to expand our workforce soon.

Our Story

The idea for the project born during a conversation with my father (of the Founder) where expressed his dream of seeing me leave my home country, D.R. Congo, and pursue a better education in a developed country. His foresight vision was incredible. In 1991, I moved from Africa to Canada to pursue studies in Agriculture and International Development where I gained practical experience, made connections, and ultimately came back to D.R.Congo, contributing to its development by creating employment opportunities for several people.

After completing my studies in 1997, I returned to Africa and began working with young people and villagers. In 2001, I took the initiative to establish a non-profit organization named Fercomex-Tcn, with the primary goal of engaging and encouraging young people and other citizens in agriculture and rural development. The organization focuses on providing training and equipping individuals for improved production.

Future Objectives

Following a Chinese proverb: Give a poor (wo)man a fish, and you feed her for a day. You teach her to fish and you give her an occupation that will feed her for a lifetime.” This is precisely what we aim to do: help young generations create and build their future. We have set objectives, but we need your help to achieve them.

Objectives
  • ATELIER GENERAL

    • We want to purchase small welding machines, woodworking equipment, and generators for manufacturing by ourselves what we can produce instead of buying them.
    • We wish to reduce expenses by producing some items ourselves that we will need for various activities on the farm. This will begin in the coming month.

  • BRIDGE CONSTRUCTION

    • There is a small river that needs to be crossed to access the farm. Without a small bridge, access is very difficult, and our development is at risk.
    • The bridge is important for easy access to the farm. As soon as we have the workshop and the funds, we will begin construction.
    15,000 USD

  • MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION

    • One mean of transportation is needed for equipment, agricultural product transport, commuting participants from the city, and foreign volunteers.
    • To bring our workers and volunteers to visit and become familiar with our facilities.
    40,000 USD
    DONATE NOW
  • TRAINING CENTER

    • One small equipped room (whiteboard, chairs, tables, projector, etc.) is needed for training, instead of gathering outside without shelter or under the trees.
    • Currently, the few participants who come to Fercomex for training had to attend it outside, if there is no heavy sun or rain. Otherwise, they attend our training under the shade of a tree. Participation is low because we don’t have a right structure. The construction of a shelter or a patio will increase participation.
    25,000 USD

  • HOUSE FOR HOST

    • We need a fully equipped guest house for visitors (foreign, volunteers, etc.) with solar panels and other amenities.
    • Without a guest house, we cannot accommodate foreign, volunteers. The lack of suitable accommodation hinders our ability to host volunteers, who are crucial for boosting our NGO with their contributions, expertise, and support. This will be the last step.
    50,000 USD
    DONATE NOW
  • DAILY BREAD

    • To help maintain and regenerate more farm income that will help cover the NGO’s daily expenses (workers, fix items, ...) and one become self-sufficient by incresing the volume of the activity we are doing now to keep the NGO moving (production of the porcs, vegetable, corn...even add fish pond!)
